The Realtor as High Performance Athlete

The Realtor as High Performance Athlete

What do top performing realtors have in common with high performance athletes?

Each has a vision for themselves, a vision of success, moored in the reality of a plan of action that they execute on every single day.

Tony Schwartz and Dr. Jim Loehr, both leading practitioners and researchers in the field, state in their seminal article for the Harvard Business Review in 2001, entitled The Making of a Corporate Athlete, unequivocally that the principles of high performance for top athletes are a major part of the success of top performing business executives.

Specifically, physical exercise is a key component to ensuring that both top athletes and top business executives need to have an exercise plan that they follow religiously.

Loehr and Schwartz state “we realized, executives are “corporate athletes.” If they were to perform at high levels over the long haul, we posited, they would have to train in the same systematic, multilevel way that world-class athletes do. We have now tested our model on thousands of executives. Their dramatically improved work performance and their enhanced health and happiness confirm our initial hypothesis.”

Leslie Benczik, a top 50 ReMax agent in North America, states “Exercise is a huge part of my success as a realtor. It is a huge relief of stress, it helps me manage and eliminate stress. My energy levels are higher, my brain is sharper, and I have the energy to deal with people all day long.”

Rob Roland, the co-owner of a Keller Williams brokerage, has stated “as a top producing realtor, if you are not optimizing your health and fitness through regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle, you are giving up at least one deal a month. At $10,000 commission for the average deal, you are forgoing at least $120,000 in income a year.”

If you are not already in a regular program of physical exercise with a healthy eating plan, you owe it to yourself to get into one. Take on the mindset of a high performance athlete, and commit to regular exercise and eating right just as you commit to prospecting and setting listing appointments!
